Metropolitan Transportation Plan Update

The MPO is updating the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), the long-range transportation plan for the area.  The MTP identifies future transportation projects out to the year 2035 for all modes to address congestion, increase mobility, and improve connectivity.  The plan outlines several policies and actions to achieve regional goals and to meet the needs of citizens and visitors alike.

MTP FINAL DRAFT DOCUMENT (March 2010)

The FMPO has completed a public discussion draft for the update to the MTP.  A formal 30-day public comment period is being held from Sunday, February 28 to Wednesday, April 7, 2010.  You are encouraged to submit comments to MPO staff.  The public is also welcome to attend a public hearing on the draft MTP during the MPO Technical Committee meeting on Thursday, March 25 at 10:00am at Bloomfield City Hall (915 N First St.)

MTP ROAD PLAN (November 2009)

On November 19, the Policy Committee approved a list of prioritized scenarios which will be used for guiding future road improvements for the MPO.  The scenarios identify project priorities for the next 25 years.

In addition, other identified projects during the MTP process have been grouped into a tier system. Projects in the second and third tiers are of a lower priority and are simply provided for reference.

BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN PLAN (November 2009)

On November 19, the Policy Committee approved a priority list of regional bicycle/pedestrian projects for the MPO.  The short range priorities will become part of the MTP document.  Mid- and Long Range projects are identified in the event that additional funding becomes available.

The projects were ranked using approved evaluation criteria and a 0-5 point scale.  Additional points were awarded if the project received top votes from the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Group (BPAG).

POTENTIAL TRANSIT EXPANSION OPTIONS (October 2009)

Using Census data and land use projections, the MPO is identifying what areas will need to be served by transit during the next 25 years.  The MPO will try to connect areas with high levels of potential transit demand.  If you have any transit expansion ideas, send them to MPO staff.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC DATA and MAPS (June 2009)

On June 18, 2009, the Farmington MPO Policy Board adopted the revised Population and Employment projections for the MPO Region. These numbers are reflected in the corresponding Maps and are graphically projected by transportation analysis zones (TAZ).

The revised socio-economic numbers will be utilized to update the FMPO traffic demand model and in the analysis of current and future transportation needs for this area.

PUBLIC SURVEY RESULTS (May 2009)

In March 2009, the Farmington Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) issued two surveys to solicit public input on general travel characteristics, public transit services, and improvements needed for our regional transportation system.
